Twenty One Days of Fasting and Prayer
Jesus Said "When You Fast..."
Jesus says when you fast, don't act gloomy like hypocrites who disfigure their faces to show others, but anoint your head and wash your face so only your unseen Father knows, and He will reward you. This teaches that fasting should be a private, sincere act between you and God, focused on deepening your relationship with Him, not for public recognition or reward from people.
Key Instructions from Matthew 6:16-18:
- Don't be obvious: Avoid looking sad or showing off that you are fasting.
- Act normal: Wash your face and put oil on your head as usual.
- Keep it secret: Make it a private matter between you and God.
- Focus on your Father: Your reward comes from God, who sees what's done in secret, not from people.
The Purpose of Fasting:
- It's a given spiritual practice, like giving and praying, to draw closer to God.
- It's about inward sincerity and an authentic heart, not outward appearance or self-righteousness.
